Ferrari Portofino – Galloping through Northern Europe
Stockholm hosted the final ‘continental’ stage of the exclusive première of the Ferrari Portofino. Ten of the new Prancing Horse GT cars passed through picturesque Belgian and Dutch towns and cities during a two-week journey that concluded in the Swedish capital.
The cars set off in early July from the port city of Antwerp, Belgium, on a route designed for driving fun and to show off the car’s versatility.
They stopped off in the Dutch city of Hilversum, which is surrounded by greenery and just 30km from Amsterdam. From there, passing through forests and along the magnificent lakes surrounding this city, the caravan headed towards Hengelo, close to the German border. Along this stretch, Ferrari fans and collectors had the chance to appreciate the sporting qualities of the 600 hp V8 engine and to enjoy a behind the wheel preview of the car.
The journey through Central and Northern Europe then continued in the direction of Sweden, in particular Malmö, its third most populous city, famous for the Öresund Bridge, which crosses the North Sea to Denmark. It was from Malmö that the last stage with its 28 events set off for Stockholm.
The Ferrari Portofino’s European tour has now landed in the UK, with a first stop in London. The new convertibles, which feature a retractable rigid roof that changes configuration from saloon coupé to sports spider in just 14 seconds, will progress from the capital to some of Britain’s loveliest cities, stopping in places such as Colchester, Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds.
